Do you feel like saving a life today?
Every share, every voice speaking about it, every new pair of eyes could be the person that decides to save my life. Feel free to share this page! You may not be the one who saves me, and that’s okay. But if you share it, and THAT person does, it’s kinda like you did, too!
I was once pretty cute, and strong, and handsome (real image, not fake)
Now I’m pretty cute, and handsome, and my kidneys don’t work :(
Here’s the Process:
First, you take a digital online screen survey. This questionnaire will ask a few general questions about your health to get a better idea of whether or not you could be a potential candidate for donation. This could include factors such as your own health, your weight, good or bad health habits, etc. They want to make sure both you and I would come out of this okay and not make things worse for either of us! The big green button below should take you right to the survey if you’re interested in giving it a shot.
Second, if you pass the survey questionnaire, they’ll let you know that they will give you a call shortly. All this call is, is a coordination to setup an appointment for some blood drawing. They’re going to grab a few vials of blood and then compare it to the data that they have on me to see how likely it is that we’re a direct match or not. This processing period can take upwards of up to 90 days.
Third, the physical and mental evaluation is scheduled. This is where they’ll both setup a time for you to go pee in a cup for a urinalysis, and then setup an appointment where they’ll assess your physical and mental health to ensure that post-transplant you would be absolutely okay. We don’t want any doubts from anybody in this life-changing process.
If we receive the green light at this point, I believe the transplant date is scheduled for us, you become my best friend and then I can start drinking water as much as I want again. HECK YEAH!
DO I NEED TO BE A DIRECT MATCH?
No, you don’t! The transplant program has a lovely organ-swap system, so if you donate in my name and we aren’t a direct match, I’ll still move up to the top of the line and trade with another patient/donor duo that has the kidney I need since I “have” the kidney they need. Super cool!
Pros:
You receive a new best friend.
I receive a kidney that works!
I can quit dialysis and have a giant chunk of life back.
If anything happens to you, you’re taken care of as a VIP!
I won’t be fluid restricted anymore.
I can start traveling easier again.
You won’t have to see my sad posts anymore!
Recovery period for you is minimal, days!
Cons:
I might become too powerful
I might beat you in a race if I’m healthy again
Can definitely win an arm-wrestle
They do have to cut you open to retrieve The Gift.
I can’t pay you, it’s like, illegal and stuff.
I will have a lot more time for things and not enough things.
I might end up being way too happy with life. Who does that??
